Viacom18, after Colors, MTV, Nick and VH1, launched a fifth channel – “Sonic Nickelodeon” in India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka in December 2011. Sonic was targeted at India’s young adults falling in the 10 – 17 year-old age bracket. It aimed to be the ‘sci-fi platform for the wi-fi generation’, and therefore, serves them with programming in the category of action, adventure and animation. This is through television shows and movies. This is through two subsidiary blocks, Sonic Flix and Sonic Extreme. Sonic is actually a mixture of TeenNick and Nick@ Nite, probably, giving more content strategy to TeenNick.
Sonic Flix is a block airing only movies on Sunday. The movie Singh is Kinng aired on 25 December, 2011 for Christmas.
This catches with nail-biting shows at night, mostly action and adventure. It is the Indian version of Nick at Nite.
